What is Coaching?

Most people are familiar with coaching in the fields of sports or the performing arts. One engages a coach out of a commitment to a new level of excellence beyond being competent or even expert. One takes on a coach out of a commitment to mastery. Coaching is a form of relationship which honors the individual and provides the space of his or her own self empowerment and mastery.

A coach isn't someone who knows more than you do, but is someone who has the unique vantage point of being outside of your concerns, yet aligned with your commitments. A coach sees what you don't see, and hears what you don't hear, the seeing or hearing of which could make a profound difference in your performance. A coach is someone who is committed to your greatness, and perhaps, sees the possibility of your greatness more clearly than you do.

Studies show that as little as 8% to 12% of those who attend training programs translate new skills and knowledge into measurable performance improvement or business results. SCN views training as an ongoing organizational process, not a one-time event. Adding coaching as a follow-up to the training helps ensure that the training “sticks” and translates to business results.
